Module 12: Labs

In labs this week you'll have the opportunity to practise the interviewing and podcasting information we're talking about all week. I know you just can't wait!

Some of the things you're going to be doing:

1. Find a partner
2. Together, read through this handout
3. Choose whether you will ask employment questions, behavioural questions or journalistic questions
4. Take a few minutes to create some questions for each other
5. Conduct your interviews and record it using audioboo (your TA can help you)
6. Remember, you have the choice to announce your real name in the interview or use an alias
7. Think about your voice, breathing and pacing.
8. Share the link to your audioboo recording with your TA.

Labs: Module 5

As you know from the syllabus, you have an assignment next week in labs:

Lab session during Module 5, Week of February 6th Poster Presentation.  An impromptu group presentation of a poster will take place in a lab during the week of Module 5, and will be assessed by the TA. (10%)

In order to enable you to use your time most effectively, I suggest that you come to your lab having read one of the following articles. That way, you will be able to spend your time only on the creation and then presentation of your poster.

Regarding the poster format, you can use any computer programme you prefer but previous students noted PowerPoint as easy to use.

Hello!

Welcome to Ales 204.

My name is Pamela Bentley. I am a 3rd year PhD Student and am studying how light affects cells in the mammary gland.

I am originally from Vermont and moved here specifically for school.

I really love to travel, and do it as often as possible.


I think you are all going to enjoy this class. But it is definitley one of those "the more you put in, the more you get out" So please, get and stay active on twitter and participate in class/lab discussion and you will have a great time.

Hi everyone,

My name is Erin Dul and I am a third year PhD student in Agricultural, Food and Nutritional Science. I will be TAing on Tuesdays (section H4). I am excited to learn more about communication theory and to help all of you become better communicators!
I am originally from northeast Alberta and came to the UofA for my undergraduate degree (BSc in Biochemistry). I decided to take a more applied and industrial approach for my graduate research and I am currently working to improve the efficiency of bioethanol production under the supervision of Dr. David Bressler. Outside of academics, my interests include sports, outdoor activities, reading, and arts and crafts.

Hello all,

I am Kaustav, a 3rd Year PhD student. I will be teaching monday and wednesday labs this term. My research interest is developing functional foods and nutraceuticals for the treatment and management of cardiovascular diseases.

I am from Kolkata, India and had completed my bachelor of technology in biotechnology with post graduate diploma in bioinformatics.
