TECHNICIAN, NATIONAL BEE DIAGNOSTIC CENTRE
Centre for Research & Innovation (CRI)
As Technician, you will be responsible for technical support of the National Bee Diagnostic Centre (NBDC) located at the AAFC-Research Farm in Beaverlodge. This position’s major responsibilities, under direction, include receipt and proper care of incoming samples; performing diagnostics in accordance to Standard Operating Procedures; preparing results; maintaining the laboratory space and supplies; liaising with beekeepers/agencies supplying samples; and contributing to the sustainability of the NBDC.


A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field such as, but not limited to Agricultural Sciences, Biological Sciences or Medicine, plus two years’ related experience is required. A related Master’s Degree is preferred. Candidates must have knowledge in the use of Molecular biology equipment; a demonstrated proficiency in the performance of diagnostic services, manage samples and maintain an Animal Pathogen Containment Level II Lab; and know pathogen identification using molecular biological techniques. Knowledge of honey bee biology would be an asset. In addition, you must have the ability to act as a spokesperson, to collaborate, support the Applied Scientist and Manager, act as a liaison, have excellent customer service skills, and work as part of a team. Applicants must be free from known honey bee allergies. Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
This full-time, term-certain position will commence as soon as possible and end December 31, 2013. Grande Prairie Regional College offers an attractive benefits and remuneration package.
