  4. This will be interesting to check out since it encompasses parts of my minor (Health Education) along with parts of this class on all our new knowledge on poster presentations and public speaking. It will be cool to see if they use the tips we have learned!

  6. Glad you all found this interesting. If any of you make it ( I won't be able to!), I would love you to report on it and we can add that info here onto the class blog.

  7. I was required to go to the Nutrition Without Borders poster presentation and seminars (technically though, I had ALES lab in the afternoon so I wasn't able to go to the seminar) for two of my 300 level nutrition classes. I have gone every year that I have been at the University, and each year although the presentations are relatively the same, there is always something different! It was interesting, as someone who is taking ALES 204 right now, to know that all of those students have taken ALES in the past, and some still made terrible choices when organizing information on their scientific poster. Some of the posters were very well done. The font was large, the flow of the sections seemed flawless and the graphs were in the middle of the page = perfect! Others used small fonts that were barely legible up close let alone far away, had way too much information plastered on the poster, and used ridiculous color and font combinations. (Lime green with light green writing gave me a headache.) I know that the course content has shifted slightly in ALES 204 over the past few years, but as graduating 4th year Nutrition students, I was fairly disappointed in some of their lack of knowledge on presentation etiquette! Perhaps they should have had a refresher on proper poster techniques!! It was also interesting for me to go to the poster presentation because I knew a lot of the people who had created posters. One of my best friends did her poster and research on evaluating the NUFS program, which I thought was very well done. I even participated in her survey that was sent out over the ALES server. I was part of someones research project! How cool. I would definitely encourage people to check it out next year, especially if you are in Nutrition (it'll give you a great idea of what to look forward to in your 4th year).
