Students Tweeting

By this evening I have received over 20 tweets from students asking me to share this video. We won't have time in class to watch it in its entirety but I shall include it in our class blog to show how engaged #ALES204 students are in current events and new media communication tools!

Thanks to all theses that shared the video with me.

  1. Hands down, the best function of social media is how it provides the ability for things such as this to spread like wild fire, which is why I will ALWAYS support social media. SHARE SHARE SHARE this video!!

  2. How much do we really know from just a 30 minute video?
I think we should all be checking our sources and researching more on the issue and not just jumping onto the band wagon without fully knowing what the social media is telling us.
As much as I love social media, there is also it's flaw.

  3. This video is a great example of how our world of technology spreads information within seconds to other parts of the world. The footage in the video and filming techniques demonstrate how much an impact the message can have on an individual versus just reading about it on the internet or newspaper. It is inspiring to see people come together for good and not evil. It should be encouraging to know if so many people can come together for a cause far away from us, imagine what we could accomplish in our own country, even our city. With the positives also comes negatives unfortunately. People often believe what they see is true especially when a video has been viewed over 7 million times and spreads over night across Edmonton. When it comes to this video in particular and the organization that made it, sources need to be checked before donating money or buying the "action plan". If you google the organization, it does not have the best credit rating when it comes to the % of money that actually goes to Stopping Kony. Summing up...DO YOUR RESEARCH!CHECK YOUR SOURCES!

  4. It is so amazing to see how quickly information can go viral because of social media. The spread of KONY2012 was really an eye opener to me this semester as this one video spread like wildfire and hit the news and classes like this within the first few days of being posted. This is a huge reminder to always be prepared for any kind of online post to be spread worldwide as you never know where your posts are going to end up and they are online for forever!
