TA: Bibaswan Ghoshal

Hello Everyone,

I am Bibaswan Ghoshal (though people like to call me Biba). I come from one of the busiest and densest city of India, Kolkata, also known as the City of Joy. After finishing with schooling, I graduated as a Bachelor of Technology in Biotechnolgy. Due to my interest in computers I then worked for a year in two leading software companies in India, TCS and Wipro. Though I was into computers I always tried to stay close with my own field and an opportunity to do a MSc at University of Alberta was something I was looking forward. So from the hot and humid Indian climate, I came to the land of snow and wind chill. I joined the University from Fall 2009 at the department of Psychiatry and worked on mouse models of Alzheimer's disease. When I was nearing the end, I was looking for a PhD position at the University itself and got this exciting opportunity to work with Dr. Paul Stothard and Dr. Leluo Guan in the department of Agricultural Food and Nutritional Sciences. So, from Fall 2011 I started working with them as a PhD student on a project relating bioinformatics and rumen microbiology.
I have a lot of passion for outdoor sports like soccer, cricket, dragonboating and indoor sports like squash and ping pong. I like to read a lot of books mainly fiction and watch a lot of movies from every genre. But above all I like to socialise through social networking. According to my own philosophy, to be a successful person in the present times one has to be very good in marketing, not only your work but also yourself. The only means of successful marketing is communication. That is the sole reason I took up the TA opportunity in this course to share my knowledge in effective communication and also to learn something from you all. Life is a learning process and I am always willing to take it forward. I am sharing my introductory presentation if anyone is interested.
So, you will see me every wednesday in the lab. I am really looking forward to meet you all. Hope you learn a lot from this course and also enjoy a lot. I am also available for any discussions regarding my research field. Shoot me with any questions you have. All the best for the term. I am available via email at ghoshal@ualberta.ca. My twitter alias is @bibaswanghoshal. Enjoy,
